Published Work Archive & Career Timeline
This is a growing historical record of my writing, publishing, journalism and online work. I began writing and publishing long before many of today's websites existed, and a surprising amount of that work is scattered across old newspapers, magazines, books, websites, archived pages and migrated online publications.
This archive brings together my documented career chronology with surviving publications, publisher records, archived webpages, contemporary citations, client records and original artifacts. My CV provides the authoritative dates for my career history. Original publications and other artifacts are added as they are recovered, so the absence of a scan or surviving webpage does not mean the documented work did not exist. Dates or bylines displayed on later migrated websites may differ from the original publication record.
Early Writing and Student Journalism
R.J. Baskett Middle School
During the mid-1980s, I won an essay contest while attending R.J. Baskett Middle School in Gas City, Indiana. Contemporary Journal-Reporter coverage is being sought for the archive.
Smoke Signal, Mississinewa High School
I wrote for the Smoke Signal at Mississinewa High School during 1985 and 1986. Known articles include:
- Students Tour France - September 1985
- Mopeds: Are They Really Safe? - November 1985
- A.I.D.S. Review - January 1986
- Hidden Word Tracking on Albums - February 1986
- Students Start Making New Music - February 1986
- Studies Show Smokeless Tobacco Is Harmful - February 1986
- Time Capsule - April 1986
These titles are documented in my career records and may not represent the complete list of my work for the Smoke Signal. Original copies are being added to this archive as they are recovered.
Ball State University
My 1986 Ball State University period is part of my documented career chronology. Surviving original material from this period is being added to the public archive as it is recovered.
The Campus, Huntington North High School
After moving to Huntington, Indiana, I attended Huntington North High School during the 1986-1987 school year and wrote multiple articles for the school newspaper, The Campus. My career records document this work. Surviving original copies and individual article details are being added as they are recovered, including material from Spring 1987 concerning the crack epidemic.
Early Online Gardening and Publishing
Surviving material documents an early online publishing trail that includes Suite101, BellaOnline, WebSeed-era gardening sites, GrowingTropicalPlants.com, GrowingAndUsingHerbs.com, early Exotic Gardening pages, newsletters and other online publications. Historical pages and archived copies are being matched to their original titles and dates wherever possible.
Recovered and Independently Documented Work
Independent sources outside my own CV are being used wherever they survive. One particularly useful recovery is a scholarly hydroponics reference that cites my article Preparing the Greenhouse for Winter as S.A. Richerson, 2002, The Growing Edge, volume 14, issue 2, pages 62-67. This gives the archive publication-level bibliographic evidence beyond my own records.
A surviving third-party bookseller record also preserves a February 19, 2002 review I wrote of Poisonous Plants and Animals of Florida and the Caribbean. Reviews and other short-form published work are being retained alongside articles rather than discarded simply because they fall outside the traditional magazine bibliography.
- Persian Shield Plant - Suite101. A contemporary citation records an April 30, 1999 version; a later CV record carries a 2003 date, suggesting a republication or update history that is still being investigated.
- Growing Cinnamon - surviving full article with byline.
- Angel Trumpets - surviving full article with byline.
- The Empress of Brazil - The Bulb Garden, Volume 2, Issue 2, June 2003. Surviving publication copy and publisher index.
- Summer Bulb Storage - The Bulb Garden, Volume 2, Issue 3, Summer 2003. Surviving publication copy, publisher index and a contemporary August 2003 message from the newsletter editor identifying me as the author of the article about handling tender bulbs in fall. The surviving artifact misspells my middle name as "Anne"; this is a publication typo.
- The Best Time To Plant Bulbs - The Bulb Garden, Volume 2, Issue 4, Fall 2003. This additional article was recovered from the Pacific Bulb Society's master newsletter index. The index again prints my name as "Sheri Anne Richerson," another historical publication typo.
- Floating Gardens: Watergardening of the Future - Lawn & Garden Retailer. Surviving publisher article and original-layout PDF; conflicting 2003/2004 date evidence is being preserved pending resolution.
- Housekeeping with Herbs - The Herbarist, 2006. Independently documented by the Herb Society of America archive.
- Growing Tropical Plants From Seeds - Tropical Treasures Magazine, Winter 2009. Surviving publication evidence.
Gardening Publishing History and Recovered Bylines
Gardening is a major part of my publishing career and belongs in this professional archive alongside my journalism, books, broadcasting and other writing. This section documents that history on SAR, while Exotic Gardening serves as the deeper subject archive for gardening-specific collections. Surviving originals are linked here as they are recovered.

Demand Media and Migrated Online Articles
Live bylines recovered
The following Demand Media-era articles have now been recovered as live publisher pages carrying my byline. The dates currently displayed by the sites may be later update or migration dates, so they are preserved as current-page evidence rather than automatically treated as the original publication dates.
- Fast-Spreading Perennials - eHow
- What Plants Go With Heuchera? - eHow
- Boxwood Shrub Companion Plants - eHow UK
- Vegetable Garden Companion Plants - Garden Guides
- Japanese Maple Companion Plants - Garden Guides
- Indoor Plants In Alaska - Garden Guides
- Pruning A Sambucus Nigra - Garden Guides
- Fruit Trees With Thorns - Garden Guides
- Which Peonies Can Grow In Zone 9? - Garden Guides
- Companion Plants To Dianthus - Garden Guides
- Mint Plant Varieties - Garden Guides
- When to Plant Bulbs in a Greenhouse - surviving migrated publisher page on Weekand
- How to Plant Peas in a Damp Towel Overnight in the Fridge - surviving migrated publisher page on Weekand
I worked with Demand Media Studios from 2009 through 2013, producing gardening and home-related material for properties including eHow, eHow UK and Garden Guides. Some articles remain live, some migrated to other publishers, some lost their original bylines during migration, and others currently survive only as titles, URLs, citations or archived evidence. A title-by-title recovery is underway rather than treating the surviving online catalog as complete.
Book, Almanac and Anthology Contributions
My early-2000s publishing history also includes contributed work in multi-author books and annual almanacs. These records are being reconstructed separately from my solo-authored books because individual chapters and shorter contributions can otherwise disappear from a conventional book list.
- Llewellyn's 2002 Moon Sign Book - contribution on medicinal astrology. A surviving contemporary author biography independently identifies this contribution.
- Llewellyn's 2003 Herbal Almanac - contribution associated with Preparing An Herbal Meal For The One You Love. A surviving contemporary biography announced this contribution before publication.
- Witches' Spell-A-Day Almanac (2003) - 25 herbal spells, documented in my career records.
- Llewellyn's Herbal Almanac - contributions documented for 2003, 2005 and 2006.
- Llewellyn's Magical Almanac - contributions documented for 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006.
- All Things Chocolate (2005) - multi-contributor book.
- Our Food Heritage, Past, Present, Future, Baking Bread Together, Helps to Keep the Family Together (2007) - anthology contribution documented in surviving professional biographies.
These contributions are part of my documented publishing history. The archive will be expanded with individual titles, page ranges, tables of contents, scans, publisher catalogs and other surviving original material as those artifacts are recovered.
Magazines, Books, Newspapers and Other Publications
The larger archive also includes magazine work, newspaper journalism, audio journalism, book and anthology contributions, reviews, interviews, contributor profiles, publishing correspondence and professional mentions. The existing Freelance Client List & Projects page remains an important source, but it is not being treated as a complete bibliography.
Recovered Print Journalism and Magazine Work
- DogGone, March/April 2002 - view the surviving published article, "Chicago Bakeries Are For The Dogs". A modern archival presentation also preserves the story with original reporting photographs.
- Miss Kitty's Journal, January 2004 - view the surviving "It's No Secret! Learn To Grow Your Passion For Herbal Tea" publication artifact. This gardening work is part of my publishing history on SAR and may also be cross-referenced in the Exotic Gardening historical archive.
- The Courier, 2005 - surviving newspaper production pages document reporting, editing, page production, community coverage, business coverage, school and sports pages, and the 2005 Spring Home Improvement special section. Browse The Courier Archive, 2005.
- Early student journalism - surviving material includes the 1986 A.I.D.S. Review and other school-era work documented in the career chronology above.
- Additional recovered pieces include Crisis in America, Y2K-related material, and Spring Fling publication material. The Spring Fling archive also preserves photograph 1 and photograph 2.
European Press Network and Global Radio News
Surviving WAV masters preserve a group of short-form news and current-affairs recordings identified in the original files as authored by Sheri Ann Richerson. Subjects include the September 11, 2001 news cycle, aviation and security developments, border searches, military action, Osama bin Laden and fundraising concerns. The original WAV files are retained as preservation masters and can now be heard in the Global Radio News Audio Archive.
Publishing Correspondence and Proposed Projects
Private correspondence is also being retained as part of the career archive when it documents assignments, proposed books, rights questions, editorial discussions or other behind-the-scenes publishing history. Raw email files are not being posted publicly because they can contain private headers and contact information. One surviving 2014 correspondence group documents discussions with Cool Springs Press / Quarto concerning a proposed Extending the Seasons book and questions involving existing Penguin contracts.

Archive Notes
The research archive deliberately preserves conflicting dates, migrated URLs, lost bylines, publication typos, dead links, screenshots, scans, Wayback captures and incomplete leads. Public entries are identified carefully so that a surviving clue is not presented as stronger evidence than it actually is.
This page will continue to grow as older work is recovered.
